Step 2: Preparation & Scheduling

 

Once you green-light the job, we schedule around your life—quick turnaround, usually within a couple weeks. We protect your interior: drop cloths on floors, plastic sheeting over furniture, and careful handling to avoid scratches. Crews arrive on time, in uniform, and ready to work.

 

Step 3: Safe Removal of Old Windows

 

We start outside for most replacements. Old sashes, frames, and stops come out carefully—especially important for historic or older Virginia homes to avoid damaging siding or trim. We remove weights/pulleys from old double-hungs if needed, dispose of everything responsibly (no dumping in your yard), and clean the opening. This step usually takes 20-40 minutes per window. Safety first: harnesses for upper floors, proper ladders, and eye/ear protection.

Step 4: Prep the Opening & Proper Flashing/Sealing

 

We inspect the rough opening for level, square, and any rot/damage (fix if needed, at quoted cost). Then we apply high-quality flashing tape and housewrap integration, exactly like we do around roof penetrations to prevent water intrusion. ProVia windows come with built-in nailing fins or flanges designed for secure, weather-tight installs per ASTM E2112 standards. We flash the sill pan (self-adhered membrane with upturned edges) to direct any water out, then integrate with your existing siding and roof flashing. This creates a continuous water barrier—no leaks at the top, sides, or bottom. We shim for plumb and level, ensuring the frame sits perfectly square, which is critical for ProVia's welded vinyl strength and smooth operation.

 

Step 5: Install the New ProVia Window

 

The window goes in from the exterior. We apply a bead of premium caulk around the opening, set the unit, and secure it with screws or clips through the nailing fin. We insulate around the perimeter with low-expansion foam or backer rod + caulk for energy efficiency, avoiding over-foaming that could warp the frame. Interior trim or extension jambs if needed for flush fit. Everything gets sealed tight maximizing your energy savings and noise reduction.

 

Step 6: Final Checks, Cleanup & Inspection

 

We test every window: open/close, lock/unlock, check for smooth operation and tight seals. Level/plumb verified again. Exterior caulk tooled smooth for a clean look. Inside: remove all debris, vacuum, wipe sills. Full walkthrough with you to make sure you're happy. We leave your home spotless, haul away old windows/materials, and provide care instructions. If anything's off, we fix it on the spot.
